What Is Bikram Yoga?

Bikram Yoga is a 26 posture sequence selected and developed by Bikram Choudhury from Hatha Yoga. Each class lasts 90 minutes, each pose is practiced twice. The yoga room is intentionally heated to 40 degrees Celsius with 40% humidity. Bikram Yoga is specifically designed to work the entire body, using heat to stretch deeper and prevent injuries. It is an extremely well balanced practice, and in each 90-minute class the practitioner gains physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health benefits.

The sequence of 26 postures never changes, neither does the order of the postures. That's the reason why beginners find Bikram Yoga easier to get accustomed to and experienced practitioners get to the meditative nature of the practice faster.

For Whom?

Bikram Yoga is suitable for everybody, both young and old. Everybody practices watching their own limitations. As Bikram himself says:  "You're never too old, never too bad, never too late and never too sick to start from scratch once again."

Because the system works.

You strengthen your muscles, bones, respiratory system, and your flexibility increases. Due to heat and constant stretching, your prior injuries tend to heal faster.

If you have been practicing Bikram Yoga for a while, you might notice that you are capable of doing physical exercises that seemed impossible before (run 10K, swim longer distances and so on). It increases your resistance level.

Bikram Yoga is also a perfect exercise to support weight loss. Calories burned in the 90 minute Bikram Yoga class are equal to a 90 minute run. And not all people are capable of running for 90 minutes straight.

Intense sweating and yoga exercise lowers the level of the stress hormone cortisol in your body. You leave the class happier and more balanced.
